Virat Kohli; captain of India and IPL team Royal Challengers Bamgalore; is 31 right now. He will turn 32 on 5th November this year. Well, it doesn’t seem he is too old. But it is good to contemplate; future of our beloved nation’s favorite sport.

Virat rose to fame due to his match acquiring victory captaincy in 2008 U19 World Cup. Right now, his deputy is Rohit Sharma. A plethora of people think; Rohit Sharma should be next captain of India; given the fact he’s the most successful captain of IPL. But, be practical guys; Rohit is 33 currently & Virat still has 4-5 years remaining. Consequently, it seem unlikely that Rohit will be handed captaincy at the age of 37-38.

So, let’s visually perceive players who have the potential to lead star-studded Indian team in future.

#3: Prithvi Shaw

Virat Kohli was an U19 World cup winning captain; so is Prithvi Shaw. So why not go for proven method. Shaw is an opening batsman(right-hander). A rising Indian cricket superstar, who is rated highly by many experts. Prithvi Shaw possess enormous potential; whose play-style is similar to Sachin Tendulkar.

One of the best positives that Prithvi Shaw has is; He can replace both Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma. He can replace Virat as captain & Rohit as opener; and can remind us of Sachin. The major downside of him becoming captain after Virat; is he’ll be 23-24 when Virat; will hang his boots. Maybe he will become deputy to new captain.

#2: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, 25, remains the long term contender for no.4 of Indian national cricket team. A right-handed top-order batsman who can play at no three, no four or five, Iyer has played ODIs and T20Is for the India national cricket team.

Iyer is currently the captain Ranji Trophy team of Mumbai alongside Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He has a fair bit of experience and has shown his capability to lead a team that is filled with experience and youth. His captaincy that led Delhi Capitals to play-offs in IPL 2019 is widely praised.

The major advantage he have; is he’ll be 29-30 when Virat hang up his boots.  With time Iyer will attain more maturity and will have more match experience to strengthen his acclaim to become next captain.

#1: KL Rahul

Precisely; the most hottest thing in Indian cricket: KL Rahul. He currently captains Kings XI Punjab in IPL. A part-time wicket-keeper and batsman; he’s currently very popular among fans due to his form.

His unbelievable form & continuous hard-work has paid off ; as he has won a lot of cricketing hearts. He can bat at as an opener, at no.4 and no.5. But these positions don’t hinder his run scoring abilities. He is also seen as a replacement to Indian -legend; MS Dhoni as a wicketkeeper-batsman.

He’ll be 32 when Virat will hang up his boots; & he’ll be backed as a captain by Indian fans. The only thing he needs right now is a good-stint as a captain with Kings XI Punjab. If he succeeds, in doing so then it’ll be practically impossible to imagine any other player as next captain of India.

Honourable mentions: Haardik Pandya, Shubhman Gill & Karun Nair.
