Today we are going to tell you how to prepare a cricket pitch. Preparing a pitch is recommended during summer season. In India; summer season is prevailing now. As our nation is slowly unlocking the lock-down; and life is going back to track; lots of bored people will come out and will play their favorite sport, i.e. Cricket. So, here are the steps how to prepare a cricket pitch:
Firstly of course; you need a location, i.e. a park or some sort of open space. If you have a backyard in your house; then its great. Keep in mind where four runs or six and out will be; and where it’s best to bowl from.
Once you’ve picked the spot mark the length of your pitch. If your age is more than 14 then; make the pitch as long as your yard allows. For younger children; you may want to make your pitch a bit shorter.
The best spot for a pitch is in front of a fence; or a wall so you can have an automatic wicket keeper for one-on-one games. Next drop the height of the blades on your mower( A mower is a machine which cuts grass; you will need this to make pitch.); you need to mow the pitch into the existing lawn nice and short so you’ll get more bounce. If you don’t have a mower then; find an area which have low grass, then use it as a pitch.
Now it’s time to set up stumps. If you have wooden stumps and bails knock them into the ground. If you have metal stumps place them in position. Now if you don’t have wooden or metal stumps then; you can go for the good old fashioned council bin, a bucket or even bricks.
After this grab some marking paint or powder; mark the crease at both ends. Mark the crease as long as the length of your bat plus its handle.
And guess what now you are finally ready to smash a six; or send down a googly. All you need now are some friends to play with.
A Pro Tip
Once you’ve called stumps for the day; give the pitch an aerate and a deep sousing if it’s had extortionate wear you may want to stay off it for a while before.
I peregrinate; here’s a bonus tip for bowlers to integrate some fun to your game. Wrap some electrical(which is red or black in color) tape around a tennis ball. This causes the ball to swing a lot in the air and genuinely keeps the batsman guessing.
