The first match of IPL 2020 is won by Chennai Super Kings. After 4 losses CSK got their revenge by winning this game. The stars for Chennai in this match were Ambati Rayudu who scored 71 of 48 balls and Faf du Plessis who scored 58 off 44 balls(he was not-out). Honorable mention to Lungi Ngidi who took 3 wickets.
It has to be noted that CSK didn’t miss Suresh Raina in this match; as many predicted that CSK will struggle without him. But Faf did a great job at no.3. CSK will be expecting more batting like this from Faf Du Plessis.

CSK won the toss and opted to bowl first!
Mumbai Indians started with a boundary; as Rohit scored four runs on first ball. Rohit and De kock played brilliantly scoring 45 runs in first four overs; hitting several fours. In the fifth over; however their partnership; was broken; when CSK’s new acquisition; Piyush Chawla took the wicket of MI’s captain Rohit.
In the very next over; Sam Curran took the wicket of dangerous-looking Quinton De Kock. MI’s score at the end of powerplay was 51/2. The wickets of openers didn’t affect Mumbai; as Suryakumar Yadav and Saurabh Tiwary continued the momentum given to them by openers.
When Saurabh-Suryakumar’s partnership was giving CSK problem; MSD called Deepak Chahar to bowl the 11th over. Deepak repaid the trust of his captain by taking the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. Then Hardik and Saurabh added some runs; before getting out by Ravindra Jadeja in the 15th over. The score of MI after 15 overs was 126/5.
Krunal and Pollard were at the crease. In the 17th over Krunal’s wicket was taken by Ngidi. The fall of wickets continued then. In the 19th over Kieron Pollard got out by playing a poor-shot. Again in the same over James Pattison also gave away his wicket(It was Ngidi’s over). In the last over MI scored 6 runs and lost the wicket of Trent Boult.
MI – 162/9 after 20 overs.
CSK were not off to a good start; as they lost their openers in first two overs and scored just six runs. Faf and Ambati were on the crease. They were rotating strikes until the seventh over. Their score was 43/2 after seven overs.
After that they started to put their foot on accelerator. In the next three overs they scored 27 runs. CSK’s score was 70/2 after 10 overs.
The next five overs; were dominated by Chennai’s batsman(Du Plessis and Ambati); They scored a total of 46 runs in those overs. At the end of over 15; CSK- 116/2. The game was completely in favor of CSK. But Rahul Chahar putted back MI after taking the wicket of Ambati Rayudu ( who had scored 71 runs). Then; Ravindra Jadeja came to pitch and scored some fours.
In the 18th over; Ravindra Jadeja’s wicket was taken by Krunal Pandya. The score of CSK was 134/3 after 17.1 overs. Then came Sam Curran who played a cameo of 18 runs in just six balls after eventually giving his wicket to Jasprit Bumrah.
Then, came to field; the ‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni. He got on strike after 1.5 years in the fifth ball of 19th over. In that two balls MS didn’t manage to score run.
In the last over CSK; needed 5 runs in six balls. Faf du Plessis scored two fours on first two balls and leaded CSK to win.
CSK- 163/5 after 19.2 overs and won the match.
