On this day: England made an ODI record by scoring 481 runs.

England national cricket team

21 sixes, 41 fours, two centuries with strike of 150+ and 481 runs. What a batting by England. And the team against they achieved this feat; was the five-time WC winner Australia.

It was 19 June, 2018; pleasant weather at Trent Bridge. This was the third ODI. And guess what; England broke their own record of scoring 444 runs( which they smashed against Pakistan in 2016); by scoring 481 runs. They literally humiliated Aussies; by not only scoring 481 runs but also handing them their biggest ever defeat by 242 runs.

Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow ran rant against Australian bowlers. They made 159 runs in 19.3 overs. They gave their team a perfect platform to reach a big total. After losing a wicket; England were in no mood to stop. Hales and Bairstow put on another 151.

England then somewhat slowed in 38th over when; Baristow and Hales got out ( in 35th and 38th over respectively).

Then, Eoin Morgan showed his class; by sccoring 67 runs in mere 30 balls. He smashed 3 fours and 6 sixes.

For Australian bowlers; that was an un-forgettable day. Every bowler’s economy was more than seven. Aussies’ most economical bowler was Ashton Agar; who conceded 70 runs in 10 overs. Andrew Tye scored a century; by conceding 100 runs in just 9 overs.

At the end of their humiliating 242-run defeat, all Australia head coach Justin Langer could manage to say is “The boys couldn’t have had a worse day”.

The only player who kept the tourists ticking was; Travis Head who scored fifty one runs. Shaun Marsh, who scored a valiant hundred in Cardiff, got-out for 24 while clearing the boundary down the ground. The innings of Aussies only lasted 37 overs; in which they scored 239 runs.

Aussies endured a win-less tour; losing all five ODIs and a T20I. This marked end for Paine’s reign as Australia’s limited-overs captain came to an end.

BTW; man of that match was Alex Hales who scored; 147 off 92 balls. He scored sixteen fours, five sixes and with a strike rate of 159.78. Check out for full scorecard here.

Certainly a day to forget for Aussies.
